Subject: Death of 2 Mexican Rovers from www.scout.org
Scouting loses two Rovers in the hands of unscrupulous criminals in Mexico
Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
- May 25, 2010.
It is with a great sense of loss and dismay that the World Organization of the
Scout Movement receives the news of the murder of Pedro González (21) and
Alejandro Ruiz (18), both distinguished Rover Scouts of the Mexican Scout
Association. Pedro and Alejandro were driving back home this Sunday May 23
after offering a Scout service in a village near Ciudad Juarez when they were
intercepted by an unscrupulous armed criminal commando who without any reason
persecuted their vehicle and shot multiple times at it causing their death. The
Mexican Scout Association will mount a Guard of Honor at Ciudad Juarez in their memory, and will
conduct a series of activities to promote a culture of peace both within their
members and Mexican society.
Alejandro Ruiz and Pedro Gonzalez were distinguished Rovers who lived by the
Scout Promise and Law, and demonstrated an immeasurable service spirit at all
times. They were closely involved in the Scouts of the World Discovery in
Peace, and conducted peace projects within their city. Our fellow brothers will
live in our memory as excellent sons, friends, students, Scouts, citizens, and
individuals who strove tirelessly to leave this world better than how they
found it. It is by living our commitment for service that we will best remember
and honor them.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement strongly condemns these
violent actions perpetrated against innocent young people, and urges all levels
of the Mexican government to take the necessary measures to restore a climate
of peace, rule of law and respect for human rights, specially among children
and young people. As a social force, Scouts all over the world will continue
working to promote a culture of peace and to make constructive contributions to
Create a Better World.
All the necessary measures will be taken to ensure an appropriate follow-up to
this case, and to support the family of our fellow Scouts at all times. May God
give their families the strength needed in this difficult times. Alejandro and
Pedro will live in the memory of our movement and in our hearts as an example
of our commitment to leave this place better than how we found it. May their
souls rest in peace.

Henry, I salute Pedro and Alejandro and express my sincere sadness at their tragic loss of life whilst in the service of Scouting and our
Law and Promise. To do our best and to help other people, they have done.
To live by the Scout Law, they were trusted on their honour to keep that
Promise. They have done.
On behalf of Scouts in Australia
and around the world, I honour their contribution to making this world a better
place. May their lives add courage to our belief in Scouting4peace. Lord Baden
Powell would have been honoured to have known about the contributions of Pedro
and Alejandro and to mark their "going home to higher service", I
will erect a"going home" bushcraft symbol in one of our National
Parks this Sunday while hiking in the Park with the Maroochydore Scouts. I will
conduct a Scouts Own to honour their tragic loss but also celebrate their
contribution to goodwill and world Peace, Andrew Champion
