During Fairtrade fortnight we had a fairtrade fair in our local town, stall holders both fairtrade and ethical were able to advertise and sell their products.I arranged for a speaker who was touring Uk during the fortnight he was from Palestine and a director of Zaytoun company he was called Taysir, and he was accompanied by a olive farmer called Riziq, they gave an interesting talk about how fairtrade was helping their families and communities have a better life , but also the problems they face every day when getting their produce out to be shipped to UK.I had also contacted a local lady who sold the Zaytoun products , and a local tv chef cooked a palestine dish for people to try.As Zaytoun recently were given the coveted fairtrade logo which means their produce has reached a high standard.I thought this was a nice story to pass on and also i was told by my friend from Palestine who is a scouter, that the scouts as part of their celebrations were planting lots of olive trees to replace ones ripped up.
Here is a photo of me at the fair wearing my palestine dress and shawl.
