On 27 February at 3:30 am, a strong earthquake hit the central and southern Chile, and a tsunami that hit the coast, destroying a large number of cities, this is the most populated area of Chile,
and 800 people died and 200 others are missing, the image of the destroyed
cities resembled a war zone, the criminals took advantage of this emergency and
proceeded to loot and plunder the shops. The soldiers and sailors had to go
out to impose order with their weapons.
Scouts de Chile, together
with other public service organizations (Red Cross, Civil Defense, etc..)
Immediately began to collect food, medicine, clothes, etc, to come to the aid
of the victims left homeless, demonstrating once again that the Service is one
of the most important and beautiful work that a Scout can perform, the young
Scouts spontaneously, naturally cheerful and went to assist the organizing
centers for the victims.

This earthquake is the
fifth most powerful in recorded history be known (it was also the strongest in Chile:
9.5 degrees in 1960)
The earth's axis is tilted 8 cm due to the earthquake and
shortened days in 0.1 seconds.
The tsunami that destroyed the Chilean coast also played Hawaii, Mexico,
Japan and Russia.
On March we have the change of government, and during the
ceremony occurred several aftershocks, the strongest of 7.2 degrees.
The Concepción city earthquake shifted up to 4 meters,
moved slightly Buenos Aires,
the correction could last more than a century.
