12th Jamboree on the Internet and the 51st edition of Jamboree on the Air
The Jamboree on Internet (JOTI) is the biggest Scout event online and is an annual event when Scouts and Guides from all over the world make contact with each other by means of the Internet.

It is a real Jamboree during where Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared, thus contributing to the world brotherhood of Scouting.

It is a real discovery of the international dimension of Scouting, where young people learn about new technologies and share the vision of millions of Scouts, creating a better world!

For the first time ever, Scouts from all over the world will take part on the "World Scout Challenge - JOTI 2008".

The “World Scout Challenge – JOTI 2008” is proposed to young people, based on the three working themes for this year: Peace, Environment and Adult Scouting (Rovering), and uses a three-staged process that allows participants to explore issues related with the working themes, to share and compare their answers/findings with other Scouts overseas and to be recognized for their effort (through an electronic certificate).

Local Malta Scouts are further encouraged to establish contact with foreign scouts and scout groups from the Scout association of Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa, who together with the Scout Association of Malta are celebrating their own Centenary of Scouting, throughout the current year.

Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) is also an annual event in which Scouts and Guides from all over the world make contact with each other over the airwaves by means of amateur radio contacts, and is also a world-wide event.

JOTI and JOTA are open to Scout Groups or individuals, members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), as well as to members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Since 1958, when the first jamboree-on-the-Air was held, thousands of Scouts and Guides have "met" each other through this event. Not only is it fun to talk to Scouts and guides from other parts of the world, but also provides a chance to learn more on other country’s Scouting.

With no restrictions on age, on the number that can participate, and at little or no expense, the JOTA provides an opportunity for Scouts and Guides to contact each other by amateur radio stations operated by licensed amateur radio operators, where many Scouts and leaders hold amateur radio licenses. Other Scout Groups opt to participate in the JOTA through stations operated by local radio clubs and individual radio amateurs, courtesy of the Malta Amateur Radio League (MARL), who together with GO Broadband Providers, Sirap Ltd and Logic Pass Ltd., are the event’s main sponsors.

Both events officially open 48 hours, from 00.00hrs on Saturday 18th October going through till 24.00hrs (local time) on Sunday 19th October 2008.

Many contacts made during JOTI JOTA, have resulted in strong links between scout troops that have lasted for many years, serving also as an instrumental way to “Brand Malta” as the ideal Scouting and Tourist destination.

Additional information on both events is available on the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) web pages. (http://www.scout.org/en)
