Clean Up the World
Clean Up the World is a global campaign that inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment. Held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, it mobilises an estimated 35 million people across 120 countries.
In 2010, World Environment Day is on June 5 and Clean Up the World Weekend is on September 17 - 19. This year we are encouraging participants in Clean Up the World to act locally to care for nature in the International Year of Biodiversity. Our 2010 tag line is: "Communities Caring for Nature". In the Clean up the World Report for 2009, World Scouting receives recognition for its support to Clean up the World (CUW). CUW works in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and in its Global Activity Report, launched to support World Environment Day on 5 June, WOSM is recognised as a key 'Ally'. Scout activities are highlighted in the report.
Activities ranged from cleaning up small villages to national clean up events. Across many regions, communities also implemented recycling programmes, energy conservation, tree planting and awareness raising activities. http://www.scout.org/en/information_events/news/2010/on_world_environment_day_world_scouting_receives_recognition_for_its_support_to_clean_up_the_world
