Welcome to the First International Scout Family

October 2nd - International Day of Non-Violence

Dear Scouts 4 Peace,

As you may know the U.N. has declared October 2nd as International Day of Non-Violence.

To observe this day, a global peace campaign is taking place around the world and you can be a part of it.

People just like you and me are organizing small meetups around the world to talk about peace and take
the pledge of non-violence.

To participate, please visit www.meetup.com/idnv and join a meetup in your city.

If your city does not have a meetup yet, you can start one very easily.  All you need to do is register your meetup at
www.meetup.com/idnv and let your friends and family know.  The meetup can be as simple as a group of
friends getting together or more elaborate like a Peace Walk or Conference.  Please do whatever is within
your capacity.

Let us all come together to bring peace to the forefront on October 2nd 2010.

Join the Global campaign for peace today!  Visit www.meetup.com/idnv

If you have any questions about how to organize a meetup, please email me at idnv.2Oct@gmail.com

Thanks,
Arch

Thanks very much. We have been celebrating 21st Sept. (International day of peace) by encouraging games (play soccer make peace, peace for drum in schools) etc. This also applies to16th nov. (International day of Tolerance) and we will also think about 2nd October (International day of non violence).
I appeal to those with connections with opinion leaders, cultural leaders and religious leaders to encourage them to talk about non violence day the week before and to start announcing it in their forums and during Fridays, Saturday and Sunday congregation prayers.
Am going to take on myself ( in Uganda) so that from I start announcing non violence day through the Imam of the leading mosque in Uganda to the faithful ones who will attend Juma prayers. I have a very good relationship with the leadership of Uganda Muslim supreme council particularly the Imam of the mosque.
To those fasting, happy holy month of Ramadhan and to Muslims and non Muslims peace to all of you.

Hi Issa,
Wonderful to hear about your work in Uganda. It would be really nice to see Uganda on the IDNV map at http://www.meetup.com/idnv/

Please add your meetup even if your event details are not decided yet. That way if anyone else visits the page from Uganda, they can express their interest and you will be able to invite them for your event.

Very well said about involving opinion leaders. Yes, they can raise awareness and bring attention to this day. Thank you for your support. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks!
Arch

Hi Jose, Thank you for your message. Very sorry to hear about the 1968 incident. I read about it on NPR.com (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97546687) .

The sad thing is even after so many years, violent acts happen all around us.

Please join our global campaign and add your country to the map here:
http://www.meetup.com/idnv

Together, we can make a difference.

Arch
