SUMMARY:BSA National Jamboree 2010
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2010 National Scout Jamboree event\n\nThe c
ountdown clock is ticking so start making your plans to attend!\nScout
ing Paradise, Jamboree Style\n\nNestled in the rolling green hills of
Virginia, close to our nation’s capital, Fort A.P. Hill lies near ma
ny historical Civil War landmarks. This 76,000-acre facility has hoste
d the national Scout jamboree since 1981. The Boy Scouts of America us
es approximately 3,000 acres of land to support a city of more than 43
,000 Scouts and leaders.\nWhat is There to Do?\n\nYou name it! The jam
boree program reflects the skills of Scouting—physical fitness, envi
ronmental conservation, our national heritage, and the true spirit of
Scouting.\n\nSee yourself rappelling, discovering scuba, kayaking, raf
ting, and sailing. Experience trap shooting, archery, bikeathlons, buc
kskin games, confidence courses, conservation trail, and more! There i
s not enough time in the day for all the exciting activities that are
there waiting for you to try.\n\nDaily activities include an incredibl
e merit badge midway, arts and sciences, a re-creation of Baden-Powell
’s original Scout camp on Brownsea Island, an American Indian villag
e, regional entertainment stages, and many other activities. The arena
shows are a highlight for all participants. The jamboree is Scouting
at its very best!\nJamboree City Rises Again\n\nAt dawn on July 26, 20
10, dew on the empty fields shimmers in the growing daylight. And then
… here they come! By noon, throngs of Scouts are carrying gear and
tents, and gateways begin to emerge from the empty ground. By dusk, th
e landscape has been transformed into a bustling city of 18,000 tents,
3,600 patrol kitchens and 43,000 Scouts and leaders. This transformat
ion occurs in mere hours, making Jamboree City the fastest growing cit
y in Virginia, if not the world.\n\nAmid the thousands of colorful ten
ts that will house participants and provide program and support servic
es, there is an infrastructure that provides a safe and secure environ
ment at Fort A.P. Hill. Everything from bus systems, telephone and Int
ernet, to first-aid stations and a hospital, police and fire departmen
ts, post offices, food warehouses, a daily newspaper, and retail store
s (trading posts and concession stands) provides all the support and p
rogram services needed for an outstanding event.\nBaden-Powell’s Vis
ion\n\nIn 1916, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movem
ent, knew what success looked like for the 10th anniversary of Scoutin
 g. It was the sight of thousands of youth gathered together to celebra
te. The jamboree was born! In his words, “The secret of its growth l
ies in that indeterminate force which we only know as the ‘Scout Spi
 rit,’ “ and grow it has!\n\nSince 1937, more than 654,000 Scouts a
nd leaders have shared the jamboree experience and hiked the trails, p
aths, and roadways at 16 national Scout jamborees. Now, 100 years afte
r Scouting reached the United States, it’s your turn to celebrate!\n
100 years of Scouting!\n\nA century of the finest outdoor and leadersh
ip experience a boy could have! This tradition lives on at the pinnacl
 e of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting—the 2010 National Jamboree. Y
esterday merges with tomorrow at the greatest Scouting event of the ce
ntury. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, one you will never forget.
DON’T MISS OUT on this special moment in time!\n\nFor more informat
